About Us:

Henrietta Soaps originated in 1984 with the purchase of a secret French Polynesian soap recipe from Henrietta Rutherford-Jones, which had been handed down through generations of her family.  Henrietta was living in Queenstown at the time and was well known for the selling of her soaps and creams to tourists there. She sold the recipe to a Dunedin local in 1984 so she could travel overseas and he set up the business in Manse Street, Dunedin.  From there he marketed the soaps and creams to gift shops and garden centres New Zealand wide, and also exported to Taiwan and Japan.

The Ewart’s purchased the company in 1992 and eventually shifted it out to Mosgiel where it was located until 2016 when I bought the company and moved it to Green Island, Dunedin.

The product range under the Ewart’s has been extended with a particular focus on the rural market.  Pumice Soap and Hand Repair Cream were added to the range followed by Farmers Foot Powder.  Because the products are totally natural the inclusion of a PURE Soap was welcomed by customers as well as the Organic Honey, Goats Milk and Soft Seaweed Soaps. The export market also blossomed with the Asian market expanding along with the UK and European markets.

I will follow the Ewart’s passion to innovate and produce high quality products and of course continue the legacy of Henrietta Soaps, which has become a household name.
